Aroma Cafe is one of my favorite places to go in the San Fernando Valley because the only disappointment I have ever had there is a long line. It is a repurposed house in Studio City that is as charming as it is delicious. I have yet to come across something I have not liked, but I do admit that I have a lot more to try. This might be due to the fact that there are just some items that are hard to pass up.
The first one being the Red Velvet cake/cupcake. Aroma has been doing the red velvet cake since before it was popular and they will be doing it long after. It is hands down the best you can get. Moist, sweet, and tangy smooth frosting. Plus the size of the serving is huge. If you are not sharing you are almost guaranteed to be taking some home. Although Aroma is not the baker of this cake, it is hard to find any other place that sources from the same baker. I did some digging and some detective taste testing and I can confirm that the velvet cakes do in fact come from Auntie Em’s Kitchen in Eagle Rock, CA. (Which is deserving of its own post in the future.)
Another thing that is amazingly great would be the drink and tea selection. Everything is so great. They have incredible mixes for teas and coffees and you can really taste the quality of ingredients. By the way, that is a large green tea next to that slice of red velvet. Just so you might be able to understand the size of that cake.
There are tons of other delicious things on the menu such as brunch, the steak salad, and crowd pleasing garlic fries, but I don’t just go there for the food. The atmosphere is lovely. It is a mainly outdoor seating, that I find comfortable even on the coldest days next to a heater and with my hot drink, in an overgrown “secret garden” type of space full of mismatched tables and chairs. I just love it.
